Job Description

The School Janitor provides custodial services at the assigned site; ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. The School Janitor is an important part of the FLACS family, working to assure the readiness of FLACS schools. Under the supervision of the building's Principal, Head Custodians, and Network Supervisor who will provide an annual evaluation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Clean assigned facilities and/or grounds (e.g. classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment while adhering to maximum safety procedures.
• Move books, files, boxes, furniture, etc.
• Clean and sterilize all high-use areas to reduce the spread of bacteria and any other harmful agents.
• Travel to nearby schools or warehouses/storage as required.
• Perform maintenance of the building, such as drywall repairs; minor carpentry; classroom furniture; replacing light bulbs, & fixtures; painting projects; ceiling tile replacement; playground maintenance, athletic areas, grounds repairs; equipment audits, building inspections; safety issues, repairs; small landscaping projects; additional items as they arise.
• Participate in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
• Maintain exterior of the sites, including snow/ice removal, trash removal, etc. as needed.
• Carry handheld radio at all times while on school property if assigned by Supervisor.
• Follow federal and state laws, as well as company policies.
• Report and assist with all emergency situations as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Minimum high school graduate required with continuing education construction or facilities related preferred but not required.
• Very good physical condition and strength. Has the ability to lift 35+ lbs.
• Attention to detail and conscientiousness.
• Proven experience as custodian, janitor, or in a similar role.
• Nurturing spirit and welcoming personality.
• NYS fingerprint clearance.
• Knowledge of the use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances, knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components, and familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices is preferred.
